Malaysian Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, along with his deputy, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak went to meet with Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin at Istana Negara for the transition of power.
Abdullah will seek the King’s permission to resign as Prime Minister accompanied by Najib who will be sworn in as Prime Minister in frontĀ of the King tomorrow morning.
The day before, Abdullah had his last cabinet meeting with his minister and it was said to be an emotional one. He advised them to throw their full support behind their new boss and had a group photo taken after the three hour meeting. Abdullah was said to be jovial and relaxed during the meeting and said he will continue to be supportive of the new leadership.
Abdullah will be moving back to his new home in Sungai Penchala after his retirement where he has a comfortable two-bedroom kampung style house. Some of the plants in the orchard have started to bear fruit and he told editors to visit him when they are free.
The Laymen’s Views
Why so dramatic? We don’t recall the transition of power from Bush to Obama to be this dramatic. All the emotional feelings and… just get it over with. We hope the new Prime Minister would do a better job this round for we heard from Malaysian news that Abdullah was accused to be an ineffective leader and did not make full use of the mandate of 2004 given to him.
All the best to the new Prime Minister.
